We have created a beautifully illustrated limited-edition book to commemorate the short life of Gerald Caldwell Siordet – artist, poet and soldier.

Gerald Caldwell Siordet was an artist and poet. He was killed in service towards the end World War One, on February 9th 1917. We have produced an illustrated book to commemorate his life. It was privately commissioned by his great nephews, Andrew and James Ritchie. James also wrote the words for the accompanying memoir.

Our design juxtaposes Siordet’s paintings, drawings, poems and a number of very poignant letters to and from his family.

We set the book using the typefaces Goudy and P22 Johnston Underground, both of which were created in 1917.

A copy of the book has been given to the Imperial War Museum and the V&A Museum, where Siordet worked.

The book features several portraits of Siordet by some of the best-known artists of the period, including John Singer Sargent, Glyn Philpot, Brian Hatton and Henry Scott Tuke.
